Hi! I’m Lucy.
Chardonnay and vintage finds lover, founder of the handmade jewelry brand bel monili *and* your new guide to making your handmade business WORK online.
As a business coach with a focus on helping handmade businesses thrive online, I understand the importance of a well-optimized product page. So, let’s get started on this journey to create the perfect product page that captivates your customers.
Product pages are the digital storefronts for your handmade treasures. Think of them as the first impression your potential customers have of your products.
Let’s get going!

What does it take to create a product page that truly shines? It begins with the basics – the product title, eye-catching images, an engaging product description, and pricing that resonates with your audience. Each of these elements plays a crucial role in showcasing your products effectively.
Now, let’s think beyond the basics. What sets handmade products apart is the story behind them. Share the passion and inspiration that drive your creations. Your customers want to connect with your brand on a deeper level, and storytelling is a powerful tool for that.
Think about how your product will solve their “problem”. Whether it’s needing a gift for someone that’s difficult to shop for, or wearing jewelry that really expresses who they are – your product solves a problem for your customer.
If you can identify that problem and then tell your customers how your products solve it – you will connect with them and give them the reason to buy your product over any others.
Images are worth a thousand words, and they can make or break a sale. Ensure your product images are clear, well-lit, and professionally taken. Showcase your handmade goods from different angles and in various settings. Quality images will draw your customers in.
Remember, when someone is shopping online they cannot hold your product. You must be their “eyes” – take several different types of images to give them the whole picture.

A well-crafted product description can make all the difference. Dive into the specifics of your product, highlighting its unique features and benefits. Use descriptive language and vivid imagery to engage your potential buyers. Let them feel the value of your handmade creation.
Make sure you accurately reflect the size of the item, the materials used, and any other information about how it was made.
Also, feel free to suggest other items in your shop that may compliment each other. This is called cross-selling, and it’s a way to show your customers all the possibilities when it comes to shopping in your store.
Now, pricing is often a tricky subject. As a business coach, I’ve seen various pricing strategies in action. From cost-plus pricing to value-based and competitive pricing, each has its merits.
Finding the right strategy for your products is key. Remember, it’s not just about profits; it’s about perceived value.

The Ultimate Guide to Making a Profit with Your Handmade Business
Think about your product page layout. Is it user-friendly? Can customers easily navigate and find what they’re looking for? A clutter-free and intuitive design is essential. Make sure your page is organized and presents information clearly.
You don’t have much say over this part if you’re only selling on Etsy or a marketplace. But if you have a Wix or Shopify shop, you can certainly pick a theme that makes your product pages easy to read and clutter-free.
Optimize your product pages for search engines. You do this by identifying relevant keywords and incorporate them into your product titles and descriptions. Keywords are the words and phrases that your customers use when searching for products like yours.
Add the keyword to the title, the product description and the alt text for your images.
Effective meta descriptions can also boost your page’s visibility. The meta description is the little bit of text that shows up under your page title in a search result, like this:
When you write your meta description, make sure you use your keywords in that paragraph as well!
Customer reviews and testimonials are like gold for your product pages. They build trust and credibility. Encourage your satisfied customers to leave reviews, and proudly showcase them. Real-life experiences shared by others can sway potential buyers.
Etsy does this for you, but if you have your own shop, you’ll need to make sure reviews are active. You can send a follow-up email to your customers after their purchase, and ask them to come back to the shop to leave a review.
Besides establishing trust with your customers, reviews are also great for SEO, and they show Google that your page is active and you’re getting engagement with your visitors.
Lastly, don’t forget the call to action (CTA). Your product page should guide visitors on what to do next. Whether it’s “Add to Cart,” “Learn More,” or “Get Started,” a strong CTA is essential for conversions.
Crafting the perfect product page is an ongoing process, but with these insights, you’re well on your way to success. As someone passionate about helping handmade businesses thrive online, I’m here to support you every step of the way.
