Ah, October – it’s a time full of fall leaves, pumpkin patches, carnivals and hay rides. But for handmade sellers, it can also be a time full of late nights making our creations in anticipation of a busy holiday season. Making marketing content for your business is probably the last thing on your mind.
It can be hard to create content for your social media and marketing right now. Even if you’ve prepped your marketing and social media in advance, you will probably have days where you want to share what you’re currently making.

Many people who follow creators like you are interested in their process as much as in their finished products. They love to see how you create!
Taking photos and videos as you work is the perfect way to share what you do. Even if it seems mundane, and even if the photos aren’t what you feel are “insta-worthy”, there are many ways you can use them to your advantage.
Step by step process photos can be used in a carousel post on Instagram – post each image in order, and then in the caption you can explain what each image shows.
You can do the same thing but use a slide show video to do it, maybe with text captions right in the video. Make sure it’s less than 1 minute long, and you can post it as a Reel on Instagram.
You can make a simple slideshow video using an app like Wave.
Process videos make great Instagram Reels as well! Add some fun music to it, and it’s a great way to get new eyes on your products, since Reels are getting amazing views on Instagram right now.
(Make sure you also share your Reel in your Instagram Stories as soon as you post it.)
Take close up photos of your products or the individual elements that you use, and then ask your followers to guess what you’re making! This is a fun way to keep them engaged and get some comments.
If you’re making products that come in several colors or styles, taking a group photo of all the options is a great way to show off your creations. Photos of multiples of the same product tend to do very well.
Don’t try to make these images “perfect”. Lighting is most important – as long as you have decent light (preferably natural light), then just snap away! If you use Canva when you’re preparing your photos, you can easily adjust the lighting and color in just seconds.

Capturing photos and videos while you’re working is an easy way to increase your content, connect with your audience by showing them your process, and gives you more options when it comes to filling out your social media calendar.
